We’ve waited and waited, and finally the new Stampin Up Magnetic Cutting Plate is here! This plate has been designed to use with the Cut & Emboss Machine to help hold metal dies in place to save time and frustration! I’ve used my new plate quite a lot over the last week or two, and today I want to share all about it with you. It is helping me tremendously, and I think it may help you too.
Intro To Cut & Emboss Machine
If you’re new to die cutting or would like more information on the Stampin Up Cut & Emboss Machine, take a look at this page where I’ve linked several posts that tell all about it.
The machine mentioned above will emboss paper by adding texture to it, and it also does die cutting. Die cutting involves using metal dies to cut precise shapes from paper. It’s a wonderful way to make cards more easily and with professional-looking results.
The New Magnetic Cutting Plate
The Magnetic Cutting Plate is an accessory now available to use with the Cut & Emboss Machine. The advantage of using this plate compared to the non-magnetic plates is that because of the magnetic pull, it holds dies in place rather than them sliding around. When you are die cutting around a stamped image, this is invaluable! It’s also helpful when die cutting from plain paper.
Cutting Plate Review Video
To learn all about this new cutting plate, take a look at the video I created here.
In the next section I’ll share about the features of the plate, and then I’ll share more about how to use it.
Cutting Plate Features
This cutting plate is made up of 3 layers. The top layer is a self-healing mat. Each time you cut with it, the die will cut into this self-healing surface. The middle layer is a magnet, and the lower layer is sturdy metal to keep the plate laying nice and flat.
How It Compares To The Old Magnetic Platform
If you’re familiar with the older, thicker magnetic base plate, I’ll mention how the two compare. The older plate was a replacement for the actual platform base, and it was the same thickness as plates 1 and 2 with our new machine, whereas the new platform replaces plates 2 and 3. The older base had a magnetic field that changed across the surface, so at times dies would ‘jump around’ to attract to or repel from the magnetic fields. The new plate doesn’t do this!!
How To Use
To use this plate using our current Cut & Emboss Machine plate system, you’ll use plate 1, this plate # 5, your paper, a die, and plate 3.
You can see that my cutting plates are VERY well loved. If you’re curious about how to keep your plates flat and working well for a long, long time, take a look at this.
Caring For The Magnetic Cutting Plate
It is important to care for the cutting plate by making sure to spread out your dies across the surface of the plate. If you lay a die in the top right corner one time, use the 3 other corners and the center area over your new few cutting sessions.
If the plate becomes dirty or has paper fragments on it, use a damp cloth to clean it. Do not submerge the plate in water and do not use harsh cleaners.
How Long Will It Last?
Only time will tell how long this cutting plate will last. Because the top portion is a self-healing mat, it will not last forever just like the clear cutting plates don’t. I’ve used my magnetic plate about 75 times so far and it’s cutting perfectly. I foresee being able to cut many hundreds of times, or even thousands before needing to replace the plate.
