Welcome! Today I’m going to share information about Stampin Up’s ink pads. Ink pads are an important investment when it comes to crafting and stamping because you should be able to use them for years to come. You want a good quality ink pad that’s thoughtfully designed, and has a large variety of colors available. Coordination is also a really important feature to think about when investing in ink pads. Let’s take a look and I’ll share some of my favorite features about them.

Color Coordination

Before I get into all the amazing features of Stampin Up’s ink pads. I want to talk a little about Stampin Up’s color coordination. Whether it’s designer paper, ribbon, gems, markers, cardstock or ink, our colors are consistent across the product line. If you use a particular color of ink, you can find the exact same color in our cardstock, designer paper, ribbon and embellishments. You can purchase an ink refill to make the pad last longer. You can also find many complementary colors as well.

Because of this coordination, I don’t waste valuable time searching for supplies that match. Believe me, before I discovered Stampin Up, I wasted a LOT of time searching for papers and embellishments that matched. Not any more!

Okay, let’s dive into the really great features Stampin Up offers with our stamp pads.

Stampin Ink Pad Features

There are a ton of reasons why I love Stampin Up’s ink pads. Below, I’ve listed some of the most important features I feel are beneficial to all crafters whether beginner or expert.

Opening & Closing – Locking Feature

Stampin Up ink pads have a really great opening and closing feature to them and that’s the locking mechanism. To open the ink pads, pull up on the thumb groove, flip it all the way over and slide into place. To close, pull on the small finger tray, lift up, flip around and snap shut.

I love this locking feature for a couple of reasons. Sometimes I have clumsy hands, and if I drop them, they don’t accidentally pop open and get ink all over my floor or work area. Another reason this locking feature is so great is if you have children in the house. It helps keeps young kids out of the pads. I also love this feature because the lid is attached and folds under the pad itself, meaning there are no extra pieces laying around taking up precious work space (or getting lost under supplies)!

Ink Pad Size

Stampin Up ink pads have a nice, large surface area. The actual ink surface measures 2 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ which is larger than most ink pads on the market. I love that!

Upside Down Storage

Did you know all ink pads should be stored upside down? These ink pads were designed to store upside down. This is a really great feature. Why should pads be stored upside down? When stored with the sponge facing down, the ink will be on the surface of the pad when you’re ready to stamp due to gravity.

Firm Foam

Stampin Up ink pads are different than most other pads on the market. That’s because these stamp pads are made out of a firm foam. Having firm foam in the ink pads means less effort for you to ink a stamp. To ink stamps, simply lay the stamp on top of the pad and give it a small tap. No need to press down! You’ll have a nice even coating of ink on your stamp.

In the photo below you can see what happens when you press too hard. You have ink everywhere, which gets messy. Remember – set your stamp lightly on the pad, then lift it and set down in another spot to ensure even coverage. That’s it. No pressing!

Color Visibility

Color visibility is one of my favorite features about Stampin Up ink pads. There was a lot of thought that went into the ink pad design and you can see that with this feature. No matter where or how your ink pad is laying, you’ll be able to identify what color it is. The pad is labeled with the color and color name on the top, bottom, and side. In addition, when the pad is flipped over there are five color strips. One of these can be used to label the inside of the pad as well, so when they’re laying open on your work surface you don’t have to guess which color is which.

Refillable

Another feature to consider when purchasing stampin pads is if they’re refillable and if refills are available. Stampin Up ink pads are refillable with the Stampin Up refills. Each color has a coordinating refill bottle that allows you to refill the ink when it run lows. This options means your ink pads will last much longer than a pad that doesn’t have a refillable option. The Stampin refills also coordinate with Stampin Up’s Stampin Write Markers, meaning you can refill your markers as well. I love these markers and love that I can use the same refill bottle for both my pads and markers.
